Up to 22 Inches of Rain. The State Showed Up Last, and Left Out Palm Beach.

  • Southern Brevard took a 1,000-year rain. Radar put 18 to 20 inches in 12 hours just south of Palm Bay. Water poured into homes in Palm Bay, West Melbourne and Riviera Beach.
  • The National Weather Service declared a Flash Flood Emergency for Palm Bay and West Melbourne at 7:56 a.m. Monday. City firefighters and sheriff's deputies ran the rescues all day.
  • Gov. Ron DeSantis signed Executive Order 26-227 late Monday afternoon, about nine hours later. It covers Brevard, DeSoto, Hardee, Highlands, Indian River, Martin and St. Lucie counties.
  • Palm Beach County asked for state help. As of Tuesday morning, it still isn't in the order, even though flooding moved two of its polling places.
  • FEMA aid for families requires the governor to ask for a federal disaster declaration. As of Tuesday morning, we found no report of a request.

Before you go

What to know

  • Hours: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time. If you're in line by 7 p.m., you get to vote. Stay in line.
  • Bring: a current photo ID with your signature, like a Florida driver's license, Florida ID card, U.S. passport or military ID. Your voter information card doesn't count as ID.
  • No ID? You can still vote a provisional ballot.
  • Mail ballot still at home? It must reach your county Supervisor of Elections by 7 p.m. today. Drop it at a Supervisor of Elections office, not at a polling place.
  • Problems at the polls? Call your county Supervisor of Elections or the state Voter Assistance Hotline: 1-866-308-6739.
  • Flooded roads: Turn around, don't drown. Don't drive through standing water to get to the polls. Call your county elections office if you can't reach your site.
