This Privacy Policy explains how Florida Man News Network ("FMNN," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the FMNN mobile app for Android and iPhone (the "App"), the FMNN website, and related services.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide:

  • Account information when you register, such as your name, email address, and password if you create an account with email. Passwords are stored only in encrypted (hashed) form.

  • Profile information from Google or Apple if you sign in with those services

  • If you sign in: your saved stories, alert settings, and reading streak, which sync across your devices

  • News alert sign-ups, including the email address or device alert settings you choose to save

  • Tips you submit, including the message, any photos you attach, and any optional contact details you include. We remove location data from photos before upload.

  • Donation information if you choose to contribute. Payments are handled by our payment processor, and we do not store full card numbers

Information collected automatically by the App:

  • Device type (iPhone or Android)

  • A push notification token, an identifier issued by Apple or Google that lets us send you alerts you have turned on

Information collected by our ad provider: Google AdMob, which shows ads in the App, may collect your advertising ID, approximate location, and crash data. See Section 4 below.

Website visitors: The FMNN website is hosted by Squarespace, which may collect standard usage data. Google Analytics also collects website usage data.

2. How We Use Information

  • Create and manage your account

  • Sync your saved stories, alert settings, and reading streak across your devices

  • Provide, operate, and improve the App and website

  • Send the news alerts you sign up for

  • Receive, store, and review tips and messages you submit

  • Publish and deliver news content and newsletters you subscribe to

  • Show ads in the App, which help fund our reporting

  • Send service messages, such as security alerts, password resets, and account notices

  • Respond to support requests and story submissions

  • Process donations

  • Diagnose technical problems and monitor performance

  • Comply with legal obligations

We send marketing emails only if you opt in, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

3. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We do not publicly name donors.

We share information only with the following service providers, who may use your information only to perform services for us:

  • Google AdMob (advertising ID, approximate location, and crash data) to show and measure ads in the App

  • Expo to deliver push notifications to the App

  • Apple Push Notification service to deliver alerts to iPhones

  • Google Firebase Cloud Messaging to deliver alerts to Android devices. Firebase is used only to deliver alerts. We do not use Firebase analytics or crash reporting.

  • Cloudflare to store accounts, synced app data, news alert sign-ups, and tips you submit

  • Squarespace to host the website and handle donations and payments

  • Google Analytics on the website only

  • Email delivery providers to send account and newsletter emails

We also share information with Google and Apple when you choose to sign in with them, and with legal authorities when required by law or to protect rights, safety, or security.

Business transfers: If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, we will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

4. Advertising in the App

The App shows ads served by Google AdMob, and ad revenue helps fund our reporting. AdMob may use your advertising ID and approximate location to show ads that may be personalized. You can limit ad personalization or reset your advertising ID in your iPhone or Android device settings. You can read Google's privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

5. Push Notifications

Alerts are delivered through Expo, Apple Push Notification service, and Firebase Cloud Messaging. You can turn alerts off at any time in the App or in your device settings.

6. Data Retention

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described here or as required by law. When you delete your account, we delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we must keep certain records for legal or security reasons.

7. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Choices and Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you

  • Correct inaccurate information

  • Request deletion of your information

  • Withdraw consent for optional processing

  • Opt out of marketing emails

Permissions: You can control App permissions, such as notifications, location, and advertising settings, in your device settings. Turning off a permission may limit App features.

9. Deleting Your Account and Data

If you have an account, delete it in the App at More > Account > Delete my account. This immediately deletes your account, your synced saved stories and alert settings, and any tips you sent while signed in.

If you don't have an account, you can erase the App's data on your device and remove it from our alert list at More > Privacy & your data > Delete my data.

You can also request deletion by emailing TheFloridaManNewsNetwork@gmail.com from the email address associated with your account. When we process a deletion request, we delete your account and associated personal data, except information we must keep for legal or security reasons.

10. Children's Privacy

The App and website are intended for users who are 16 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child under 16 has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. International Users

Our services are operated from the United States. If you use them from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States. Our service providers, including Google, Apple, Expo, and Cloudflare, may process information in other countries. By using our services, you consent to these transfers where permitted by law.

12. Third-Party Links and Services

The App and website may contain links to third-party websites or services, including social media accounts. We are not responsible for their privacy practices. Please review their privacy policies.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and change the "Last updated" date. For material changes, we will notify you in the App or by email.
