Calling oversight letters "extortion at the highest level," the president singled out Sen. Elissa Slotkin and said Democrats "should go to jail."

The short version
At 12:45 p.m. ET Saturday, Nov. 7, Trump posted that he is "ordering the Department of Justice to look into" Democrats threatening impeachment and investigations.
An hour later he asked supporters to report Democrats' "threats" to DOJ or "directly to me," and called Democrats "SLEAZEBAGS" who "should go to jail."
Democrats take control of the House and Senate, and their subpoena power, in January.
WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump said Saturday he is ordering the Justice Department to investigate Democratic lawmakers who are preparing congressional probes of his administration, calling their plans "extortion at the highest level."
"By copy of this statement, I am ordering the Department of Justice to look into this criminal act, immediately!" Trump wrote on Truth Social at 12:45 p.m. ET, according to the Trump's Truth archive, four days after Democrats won control of both chambers of Congress.
The Justice Department is led by acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, Trump's former personal lawyer, who replaced Tampa native Pam Bondi after Trump fired her in April, Reuters reported.
What Trump said
Trump wrote that Democrats were "threatening a lot of people, including the Attorney General of the United States," with impeachment and "many other forms of punishment."
He said Democrats were threatening Republican donors "with imprisonment" because they "happen to be Republicans," and called it "Weaponization and Lawfare at another level."
"The imprisonment should be against these EXTORTIONISTS, and Republicans should get smart, fast!" he wrote.
He said "threatening letters" had been sent to "many people, all innocent," but did not name the letters or who sent them.
"Send them directly to me"
At 1:45 p.m. ET, Trump followed up. He called Democrats' threats against "Republican Donors and Party Members" "totally illegal" and asked people to "report them to the Department of Justice, IMMEDIATELY!" according to the archive.
"If you would like, send them directly to me, your President," he wrote. "These SLEAZEBAGS should go to jail for what they are doing." He said the Senate, the Justice Department and the House "must act."
What the letters are
On Thursday, Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, expected to chair a key Senate investigative panel in January, sent letters to companies and administration officials asking them to cooperate with potential investigations, CNN reported. CNN said Trump's post also referred to companies and donors tied to his White House ballroom project.
Separately, a progressive group of former aides to Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders has drafted a 182-page plan for investigations of Trump-linked companies and donors, The Post Millennial reported. FMNN has not reviewed that plan.
Incoming House Oversight chair Robert Garcia told Trump's circle on election night to "lawyer up," as FMNN reported Wednesday.
The Slotkin claim
Trump wrote that Sen. Elissa Slotkin of Michigan "is saying that she is going to go after all young people that believe in Republican Values." He offered no evidence.
The claim traces to Slotkin's October remarks at the University of Chicago, where she said she wanted corruption prosecutions to make young people think twice about working for the Trump administration, according to a Senate Ethics complaint filed over them.
Slotkin said at the time that "if you aid in stealing taxpayer money or directing it to enrich President Trump or his family, then you should be held accountable for that crime." She did not say she would target people for their party.
Slotkin has been under federal investigation since January over a video urging troops to refuse illegal orders, AP reported via PBS.
What happens next
Congress's power to investigate the executive branch is long established. It is not clear whether the Justice Department has opened any inquiry in response to Saturday's posts.
Less than an hour after the first post, Trump also offered the White House press secretary job to UFC chief Dana White, as FMNN reported.
FMNN will update this story with any response from the Justice Department, the White House or Sen. Slotkin's office.
